We Persist
Please join Voices Rising this winter as we present We Persist a choral concert celebrating resilience, perseverance, and the power of individual voices to speak out, build community and effect change.
The performance features music highlighting modern women composers and songwriters, including Alicia Keys, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Moira Smiley, Lea Morris, Gina Chávez, Holly Near, and Joan Szymko, as well as songs from folk and Broadway, including a new work from Shaina Taub’s Tony Award-winning musical, Suffs. Singing the words of suffragists Ida B. Wells and Mary Church Terrell, as well as the timeless lyrics of Bob Dylan, we put out the call to shake things up and speak out for change. In a time when the nation remains so polarized and we face a real danger to our democracy, the music of this concert will remind us not only to raise our own voices, but also to listen around us, to work together, and, above all, to carry on with hope, determination, justice, and joy.
